This Is Not My Beautiful House...

Although I wish it were. As you may have already read on Mark Mcknight's blog Kodachrome Nights he and I ventured up to Missionary Ridge yesterday to see the Shavin House, the only Frank Lloyd Wright designed building in Tennessee. I was hoping the Shavins would be home so we could ask them some questions and see some of the home's interior. They weren't, but we still got some decent photos of the residence:

I can't imagine what it must be like to live in a house like this. It must be like living inside a beautiful poem. This is the third Frank Lloyd Wright building I have seen in person (I've also been to Fallingwater and, of course, the Guggenheim) and they all have a magic, a mystery about them. My "adoptive mother" Donna Barger lived in a Wright house in Philadelphia for a year or two. She loved the house, but felt uncomfortable in it she said -- it was so beautiful she could never think of the house as home. I think I could easily get over that.

Of course you can no longer commission a Wright original, but the Taliesin Architects can still design something very close (for a few dollars I'm sure).
